Ole Miss takes critical win over Texas A&M, 82-73

OXFORD -- Marshall Henderson scored 18 points, Murphy Holloway added 16 and Ole Miss beat Texas A&M 82-73 Wednesday night.
Ole Miss (21-7, 10-5 Southeastern Conference) earned another crucial win as it tries to solidify a case for the NCAA tournament. The Rebels haven't been to the Big Dance since 2002 -- the longest drought in the SEC.
Henderson hit five of his six 3-pointers in the second half to help the Rebels pull away after leading 37-31 at halftime. Jarvis Summers scored 15 points and Reginald Buckner added 12 points and three blocked shots.
Elston Turner led Texas A&M (16-12, 6-9) with 25 points. Turner had another good game against Ole Miss, hitting 10 of 17 shots from the field just two weeks after scoring 37 against the Rebels in a win at College Station. The son of former Ole Miss star Elston Turner Sr., the 6-foot-5 senior had 12 points in the first half alone to keep the game close.
The Rebels played with an edge reminiscent of their early season success, with Henderson hitting 3-pointers and screaming, Holloway getting easy buckets on dunks and Buckner patrolling the paint with big blocks and rebounds.
Texas A&M jumped out to a 12-5 lead after a 3-pointer by Turner, but Ole Miss fought back to eventually take a 37-31 halftime lead.
The Rebels got some good minutes early from their young and inexperienced bench. Anthony Perez had five points and Martavious Newby added three more in the first half, but Perez was hurt while going for a rebound in the second half and didn't return.
Ole Miss led by as many as 18 in the second half. Texas A&M ran out of time to make a serious run.

South Mississippi teen uses billboard to ask girlfriend to prom

GULFPORT -- Gulfport High School senior Halee Register thought she was taking an afternoon trip to Edgewater Mall on Tuesday with her boyfriend, St. Patrick Catholic High School senior Cory Krivanec.
As the couple drove along Pass Road, Krivanec began to slow down and told Register to look up at the billboard near Toarmina's Pizza.
When Register looked up, she saw her own face on the billboard. In the middle of the billboard was a note that read, "Halee, will you go to prom with me? Love, Cory". A photo of the couple was in the bottom-right corner, framed in a red heart.
"I was so shocked," Register said. "It was so sweet." She said the billboard was a hit among her classmates and many photos of it have been posted on Facebook and Instagram.
"All of my friends thought it was really sweet," she said.
Krivanec said he wanted to find a special way to ask Register to their last high school prom.
"It's our senior year and I wanted her to be surprised," he said.
The billboard went up Tuesday and Krivanec said it will stay there for two weeks. His mother, Christine Krivanec, said she'd suggested last year that he ask Register to prom via billboard.
"Cory wanted to wait until this year," Christine Krivanec said. "He's a sweet, romantic kid."
The Krivanecs designed and planned the billboard for about a month.
This occasion isn't the first time Cory Krivanec has asked Register to a dance in a unique way.
"When I asked Halee to the homecoming dance this year, I took her out in a paddle boat in my parents' pond," he said. "When she accepted my invitation, my dad set off a fireworks show."
Gulfport High's prom will be March 2. St. Patrick's prom will be March 15.
Both plan to attend Mississippi State University in the fall. Register plans to study interior design, and Krivanec will seek a degree in mechanical engineering.

New Business on the Rise in Mississippi
Business Formations indicate Growth in the State

Jackson, Miss.—The number of new businesses forming in Mississippi shows an upward trend of steady growth.

“As we move past this economic recession, more and more businesses want to set up shop in Mississippi, and the numbers show it,” says Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann. “We have unlimited resources in our State, coupled with an educated, trainable workforce. These numbers show many businesses are taking advantage of what Mississippi can offer new industries.”

The statistics show Mississippi businesses prefer the Limited Liability Company (LLC) structure to a corporate structure. Corporate formations have decreased from 3,819 per year in 2010 to 3,572 last year. New LLC formations rose to 14,918 from 12,005 in 2010. Mississippi currently has 48,488 corporations registered to do business in the State and 77,704 LLC’s.

“We believe legislative amendments to Mississippi’s LLC law, now considered one of the foremost in the country, have further spurred this growth,” adds Secretary Hosemann.

George Regional Health System Sponsors First Ever County Heart Walk

Employees at George Regional Health System have long participated in the annual American Heart Association Heart Walk in Jackson County, but this year, the system has undertaken the challenge of sponsoring a heart walk here in our own county. According to the American Heart Association, almost 36 percent of all George County deaths are heart disease and stroke related.

The Easter-themed Heart Walk is set for Saturday, March 30 and includes many free family-friendly activities. The walk begins at 8:30 (registration begins at 7:15) on the hospital’s campus with a 5K Fun Run through the city of Lucedale.

“We are very pleased to host this event for our community. Heart disease affects many lives in our county. This is a good way to bring people together to increase recognition of heart disease and the heart care services our hospital offers,” explains Paul Gardner, George Regional Health System CEO.

All proceeds benefit the American Heart Association. “We are so proud of our compassionate Heart Walk team at George Regional Health System and the wonderful efforts they are making for the benefit of the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk,” says Kathy Aycock, Regional Director for the American Heart Association.

While recognizing a serious issue, the event also promises to be a fun, family-friendly day. The Easter bunny will be available for photos and at 10:00 there will be an Easter egg hunt with prizes galore. The event also features face painting, balloon art, refreshments, door prizes, and heart health booths. The Easter egg hunt and children’s activities are all FREE!

The fun run will begin on the George Regional Hospital campus, winding through the city of Lucedale onto the new Greenway, which joins the City Park, and back to the hospital. The 5k Fun Walk/Run is $15 and includes a commemorative T-shirt. Pre-registration is due by March 8. Participants may also register the day of the race for $20, but will not receive a shirt.

Registration forms can be found at the Wellness Center, 838 Mill Street, and at www.GeorgeRegional.com. Participants can also register online at www.eventbrite.com. For questions, please contact Stephanie Chisholm at 601-947-0709 or schisholm@georgeregional.com.
