George County Heart Walk considered a great success

LUCEDALE -- The George Regional Hospital campus was filled with people on the Saturday before Easter for the first George County Heart Walk.

One hundred and fifty eight runners and walkers crossed the finish line at the "Hippity Hop for Your Heart 5K Fun Run," and another 100 plus participated in the free family events on campus. Children of all ages enjoyed an Easter egg hunt, face painting, balloon art, pictures with the Eater Bunny, and refreshments. Female division race winners included Tarya Drake of Pascagoula, first place with a time of 25.02; Stephanie Pettis of Mobile, Ala., second place with a time of 28:28; and Emily Pinkerton of Lucedale, third place with a time of 28:33.
Male division race winners included Zachary Blackwell of Lucedale, first place with a time of 21:38; Jason Craft of Lucedale, second place with a time of 21:46; and Brandon Martin of Lucedale, third place with a time of 22:14.
The success of this event was made possible by many local businesses including: Community Medical Center, Community Surgical Center, George Regional Radiology, Obstetrics & Gynecology Associates, Community Bank, Walt Massey Automotive, Mississippi Power, Batson & Brown Inc., Cardiology Associates, First State Bank, Mullinax Ford, Wayne Lee's, Century Bank, Edward's Discount Drugs, Live Oak Medical Equipment and Supplies, Singing River Health System, and HHS Culinary & Nutrition Solutions.
The Heart Walk will be an annual event in support of the American Heart Association.
