City implements agreement with Tice Engineering, Inc.

The City of Wiggins Board of Aldermen entered an agreement with Tice Engineering Inc. to seek project grants at its meeting of last Tuesday.
The board approved the agreement at the urging of Mayor Joel Miles after TEI engineer Ryan Tice said he believed there were grants available through the Local Public Agency program administered by the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
"The program allows communities to seek grants for local projects," Tice told the board. "The city has used these types of grants to restore the depot and for the construction of the existing bike trail."
Tice informed the board the grants were of the 80/20 variety, requiring the city to match 20 percent of the total cost of a project.
Tice also said a representative of the city would have to attend a seminar August 22 in Jackson in order to qualify for the program.
Miles said having the agreement in place with TEI would avoid having to put an agreement into place should a grant become available.
"I feel there's some projects we might qualify for and (City Engineer Pete Williams) stays busy with water and sewer so I thought Ryan could help us with seeking grants for some of those projects," Miles said. "I'd like to have this in place if and when those things come up."
Tice said there were, "Safe Routes to School," and other inter-modal grants the city may qualify for.
