Pascagoula

New Pascagoula mayor, councilmembers sworn in

PASCAGOULA -- More than 150 people attended the oath of office ceremony Monday at the Live Oak Avenue Senior Center to welcome Pascagoula's new mayor and council.
Judge Kathy King Jackson administered the oath of office to Mayor Jim Blevins and councilmen Larry Taylor, Freddy Jackson, David Tadlock, Burton Hill, Scott Tipton and councilwoman-at-large Brenda Simkins.
All are newly-elected to the positions.
Judge Dale Harkey spoke before the ceremony about the struggles of running for office and Pascagoula's comeback since Hurricane Katrina.
"I think we're here to recognize several milestones today," Harkey said. "It's now time to focus on the truly indestructible nature of this community."
Harkey said he believes this is the first time an all-new mayor and council has been installed since the city was incorporated in 1838.
"I'm honored and I'm humbled to be your mayor of Pascagoula," Blevins said. "It's an awesome responsibility and I want you to know that I'll respect that responsibility throughout my term."
